In April 1969, Mercury presents its Cougar Eliminat
or, which is nothing else than itsresponse to the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 or SS but also to Ford Mustang Boss 302 and Mach 1 cousins. The Eliminator comes in the form of a package compatible with arange of engines that cube of 5 litres to 7 litres (Cobra Jet) of displacement.
The Cougar was born in 1967 and stands as a luxurious alternative to the muscle cars.It is built on a chassis of Mustang expanded 3 inches or 7.6 cm. If the brand is involved greatly in competition during this period, it is not really viewed as a trulysporting coat of arms in the eyes of customers. 1969 Mercury Cougar Eliminator willsolve the problem, at least in its version 428 CJ who receives a 7 litre V8 335horsepower at 5200 rpm and 597 nm at 3400 RPM.
Indeed, if the "small" 5 liter V8 290 horses train a bit because of the weight of thebeast, the Cobra Jet takes advantage of its generous wheelbase, pledge of a bettergrip, to establish some lap times similar to those of the yet smaller equivalentMustang.
The car can be delivered with or without Ram Air, but also with a Drag Pak, whichincludes an oil cooler and a differential lock rear axle 4.30:1 ratio. The Eliminator teama (functional with Ram Air) Shaker hood, a black grilles, spoilers front and rear, sidebands and a palette of many gaudy colours (blue, orange and yellow) to which isadded a more discreet white. Other accessories are available in concession.
The 1969 Mercury Cougar Eliminator 428 CJ down the 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds andthe 1/4 mile in 14.1 seconds at a speed of 103 mph or 166 kph.
